744 Etiology and Transmission of Epidemic Diarrhea

چکیده

Diarrhea of infant mice, aside from its economic importance to breeding colonies, is the cause of considerable trouble in laboratories using such animals for investigafional purposes. A description of this disease, its epidemiology and pathology have been reported in some detail (1-6), and a few transmission experiments have been conducted by Cheerer and Mueller (1). Although the results of their studies pointed toward a viral etiology, these authors did not feel that their data furnished sufficient evidence to establish the disease as more than "almost surely" infectious, for "experimental investigation of the condition offers extraordinary difficulties" primarily due to the hardships encountered in keeping a healthy and susceptible stock of mice free of the disease. This report will present evidence from transmission experiments that diarrhea of infant mice of the CFW strain is indeed infectious and communicable; in addition, the nature of the etiologic agent will be indicated in a preliminary fashion.

A Sustained Epidemic of Shigellosis in Isfahan Province, 2015

Introduction: Shigellosis is a contagious disease with acute symptoms. Delay in detecting the disease transmission way would lead to rapid spread among the community, like what happened in Isfahan Provincein April 2015. The study aimed at evaluating the Shigella bacteria transmission medium in the outbreak that occurred in Isfahan Province, Iran. Methods: Due ...

Studies on the Etiology and Transmission of Epidemic Diarrhea of Infant Mice

Transmission experiments have shown that epidemic diarrhea of infant mice of the CFW strain is infectious and communicable. Cage to cage spread can take place by the air-borne route. The agent appears to be a fairly heat-resistant virus that can be serially transferred and that is neutralized by specific hyperimmune antiserum from rabbits. Mice are susceptible to it by the oral route from at le...

Epidemiology of rotavirus diarrhea in a prospectively monitored American Indian population.

Rotaviral diarrhea is endemic in most areas of the world, yet community-wide epidemics have not been reported in prospectively monitored populations. This prospective study of the etiology of diarrhea included biweekly visits to the homes of 10% of the population of the White Mountain Apache Indians and began in April 1981. During a three-week period beginning 21 October, 1981, 342 new cases of...

Complete Genome Sequence of the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Variant CH/HNYF/2014

Sow's milk is a potential route for the vertical transmission of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) from sow to suckling piglet. We report here the complete genome sequence of PEDV strain CH/HNYF/2014, which was isolated from milk samples : This information provides further understanding of the transmission mechanisms and genetic diversity of PEDV.
